Thank you to Skinners Field & Trial for their kind sponsorship.

This, now annual, Event has been very popular as a pipe opener for dogs before the Trial season opens proper. However, 2020 has been far from proper with COVID-19 throwing it’s weight around.
Usually the biggest problem in organising a Test would be an uncertain weather forecast, or a lack of fresh undamaged game. This year it was whether the Government Guidelines would even allow us to proceed.

The Club held a Committee Meeting the week before so we could all makes sure we understood the health and safety protocols as far as possible. The Kennel Club had published their own guidelines for Field Trial Societies, but even they didn’t seem to cover everything.

Draws and H&S Protocols had to be emailed in advance to all competitors. Numbers were limited and no spectators allowed. Gloves, sanitiser and masks were to be bought. A track and trace book and “disinfectant wash station” would be provided for all. Awards and gifts had to be prepacked in sealed plastic envelopes. No Cards on the day. Signs everywhere about social distancing. Judges to bring their own refreshments….

With military precision the day was organised, mostly between Ray and Julie. Gareth and Martyn brought the gazebo and were to be in line as Guns/throwers/planters. Naomi kindly attended to help the boys and Al was supporting everyone else. I was just an enthusiastic spectator.

At the start of the day everyone was reminded of the KC and Government Covid Guidelines. They had their own masks, gloves and sanitiser and were advised to stay safe, keep their distances and use their common sense.

The day was a HUGE success. Thank you to the Host, the Judges, and everyone that entered. It wasn’t that hard to organise in the end. Just different. Awards were given out by Al in very fetching red latex gloves. Well done Meon Valley! Let’s hope the shooting / Trialling season will go ahead as planned. CB
